My Speak Easy Journey: Finding My Voice, Choosing Abundance

Living a life of abundance in a Scarcity World

Standing on the Speak Easy stage wasn’t just a moment—it was a culmination. A culmination of decades of grit, growth, and a choice I’ve had to make over and over again: to live in abundance, not scarcity.

My speech, Living an Abundant Life in a Scarcity World, came straight from the heart. It wasn’t just about real estate, mindset, or personal development. It was about the war within me—the war between two rivers constantly flowing through my mind: one of scarcity, and one of abundance.

From Survival to Seeds of Change

I know what it’s like to live in survival mode. As a single mom working two jobs, I often prayed I’d make enough in tips to pay the babysitter and grab groceries on the way home. One night, after tucking my boys in and feeling both exhausted and grateful, I caught a late-night commercial for Carlton Sheets. The course was $199—more than I could afford—but the dream of building a better life took root that night.

That was one of the first sparks of the abundance river.

The Voices That Try to Silence Us

Fast forward a few years, I was building my real estate career and learning as I went. I had finally found a path forward. Then, during phone duty at the office, a fellow agent turned to me and said, “Where did you learn to speak English? Your grammar is awful.” I froze. His words cut deeper than he’ll ever know.

For years, that comment lived rent-free in my mind. It made me question my place in the room. It made the scarcity river rush louder.

But here’s what I’ve learned—every scar we carry has a story, and every story has power. I didn’t let that comment define me. I let it refine me.

The Power of Belonging

Years later, I found myself at a company event, standing alone in a hotel lobby, feeling small. I saw a group of vibrant women wearing “Power Girls” hats and bling, radiating confidence. I watched them from a distance, hoping I could someday be one of them.

Then one of them made eye contact, walked up, and asked, “Are you one of us?”
I said, “No—but what do I need to do to be?”

She linked arms with me and said, “Come on.”

That moment changed everything. I had found my tribe. Today, I’m proud to serve as the national education director for Power Girls. That warm welcome showed me what abundance looks like in human form: belonging, community, and shared purpose.

Why Speak Easy Was Different

Writing and delivering my Speak Easy talk wasn’t just about preparing a speech—it was about excavating truth. I revisited painful moments and turned them into purpose. I looked at my life with new eyes and realized every misstep and milestone was part of something much bigger.

The stage gave me space to honor my past, own my voice, and share the lessons I’ve lived. More importantly, it reminded me of why I do what I do—mentoring agents, supporting women in real estate, and helping others craft their own Abundance Plan.

Choosing Abundance, Every Day

What began as a desire to tell my story turned into a mission to help others rewrite theirs. Because I know what it feels like to swim in the scarcity river. I know what it’s like to question your worth, your voice, and your future.

But I also know the abundance river is always there. It may be quiet. It may not flow as fast. But it’s waiting—waiting for you to choose it.

If you’re reading this and you’ve ever felt stuck, please hear me: you get to choose. Every day. One thought at a time. One belief at a time. One small act of courage at a time.

When in doubt, say it with me:

I get to choose. And I choose abundance.
