Sometimes we look at successful people and assume they have always been the confident, accomplished person we see today. We notice the production, leadership, and visibility, but we rarely see the smaller decisions and uncertain seasons that shaped them. Rachelle Dyson’s story is a powerful reminder that you do not need to have everything figured out before you begin to build a real estate business that reflects who you are.
Today, Rachelle is a broker associate, an eight-time multi-million-dollar producer, and a leader and trainer within Epique Realty. She has closed more than $37 million in real estate sales, but her journey did not begin with confidence or a perfectly mapped-out plan. It began with a shy young woman who preferred staying in the background and was simply trying to determine what came next.
From Waiting Tables to Real Estate
In her twenties, Rachelle was rebuilding after leaving a difficult relationship. She was waiting tables and working part-time in property management when a family friend encouraged her to earn her real estate license. She followed that advice in 2017, although she soon discovered that property management was not the right fit for her.
She moved into sales, but the small brokerage she joined did not provide the training she needed. There were several points when she could have decided real estate was not for her. Instead, she kept looking for the support and direction that would help her grow.
While working as a server at a members-only country club, she met a real estate agent named Ivan. She thought he was cute, and he thought she would be a great addition to his brokerage. Today, Ivan is her husband, and joining that brokerage gave Rachelle access to something her career had been missing: practical training and people who were willing to show her how to succeed. That support helped her leave serving behind and move into real estate full time.
Confidence Can Come After You Begin
When I look at Rachelle today, I see someone who teaches agents, creates training, leads within Epique Essentials, and shows up consistently on social media. That is why I was surprised to hear what she told her real estate instructor after finishing school. He believed she was going places, but he also recognized how shy and introverted she was. Her response was simple: she liked being in the background.
Rachelle still considers herself an introvert. Success did not require her to erase that part of herself or pretend to be someone else. She learned when to turn the “on” button on, make the call, speak to strangers, and tell people she was in real estate. Most importantly, she stopped allowing fear of other people’s opinions to control her decisions.
Many agents believe they must feel confident before they become visible. Rachelle’s experience shows us that confidence often develops after we take action. You do the uncomfortable thing, discover that you can survive it, and become a little more capable each time.
Your Personal Brand Is Who You Are
Marketing is one of Rachelle’s strengths, and it is now one of the subjects she teaches within Epique. When I asked how important personal branding is for today’s real estate agent, she did not hesitate. In a market filled with agents competing for attention, people need a reason to understand why they might choose you.
However, a personal brand is not simply a collection of colors, fonts, or a polished logo. Your brand is who you are, how you make people feel, and how consistently you serve them. When potential clients repeatedly see your content, hear you speak, and understand the value you provide, they begin to know, like, and trust you before you ever have a conversation.
That is why Rachelle encourages agents to stop overthinking social media. We worry about our appearance, our voices, or whether someone we know will judge us. Meanwhile, the potential client quietly watching may not care that our hair was not perfect that morning. They care whether we understand their problem and can help them solve it.
Instead of asking whether everyone will approve of what you post, ask whether the person who needs your expertise could benefit from seeing it. If the answer is yes, press record.
Build a Real Estate Business That Fits You
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was our shared belief that there is no single correct way to generate business. Rachelle hates cold calling, and I hate door knocking. I once became so overwhelmed while sitting in my car before a door-knocking session that I started crying. That moment helped me recognize something important: nobody else gets to decide how I have to build my business.
Rachelle made a similar choice. Today, approximately 90 percent of her business comes from referrals and repeat clients. She found strategies that fit her strengths and worked them consistently rather than forcing herself to build a career around methods she hated.
Real estate gives us more freedom than we sometimes realize. You can build through social media, open houses, professional partnerships, community involvement, referrals, or dozens of other approaches. The goal is not to copy every successful agent you see. It is to identify methods that align with your personality and then give those methods enough time and attention to work.
Create More Than One Path to Your Business
I often tell agents that if they do not have enough closings, they probably do not have enough funnels. A funnel is simply a way for people to enter your world and begin building a relationship with you. Your sphere can be a funnel. Social media, webinars, local organizations, professional partnerships, and community involvement can all become funnels when you approach them intentionally.
Rachelle has begun connecting with probate and divorce attorneys in her community. Those professionals may already have agents they refer to, but circumstances change. An agent retires, becomes too busy, or stops following up. When an opportunity appears, the person who has consistently nurtured the relationship is more likely to be remembered.
Sometimes the best opportunity is already part of your life. The country club where Rachelle once waited tables is now a place where she is a member. She plays pickleball, attends craft events, participates in a weekly card group, and gets to know people naturally. Instead of manufacturing a complicated lead-generation strategy, she looked at her real life and became more intentional about the relationships growing around her.
Ask yourself where you already spend time, which communities you naturally enjoy, and who you regularly meet. You may not need another expensive lead source. You may simply need to become more present and purposeful within the circles you already have.
Avoid Shiny-Object Syndrome
Of course, developing multiple funnels does not mean trying everything at once. Real estate constantly presents us with a new platform, CRM, lead source, training program, or prospecting technique. Before long, we can find ourselves attempting twelve strategies without doing any of them particularly well.
Rachelle’s advice is to stop, select a few priorities, and focus. If Instagram works for you, learn to use Instagram well. If your audience is on Facebook, show up consistently there. Master a few meaningful strategies before adding more. Consistency in the right places will take you further than scattered activity everywhere.
Success Can Grow Into Leadership
As Rachelle became more successful, she discovered that she also loved teaching. At a previous brokerage, she helped new agents and trained others to use their CRM. Those experiences showed her how rewarding it was to share what she had learned.
Today, teaching and leadership are central parts of the work she does within Epique Essentials. To me, that is a beautiful expression of abundance. At some point, success stops being only about what we can create for ourselves. We begin asking what our experience can help someone else create.
When I asked what she would tell the woman who earned her license in 2017, Rachelle answered, “Don’t look in the rearview.” Just because you have never done something before does not mean you cannot do it. Your past may inform you, but it does not need to define your ceiling.
From Scarcity to Greater Freedom
Rachelle’s early real estate years included plenty of uncertainty. College had not been the right path, her personal life had gone through a difficult season, and she chose a 100 percent commission career without knowing whether it would work. Her mother helped her pay for Zillow leads, and Rachelle searched for free ways to market herself while building momentum.
Those early days were not glamorous, but they mattered. The woman who can now look back on more than $37 million in sales was shaped by the woman who kept moving when she could not yet see where the journey would lead.
Now Rachelle is considering the next evolution of her business. She has achieved the production, established herself as a leader, and built a successful career. Her next goal is greater freedom. She wants to travel with her husband, use their RV, spend time with family, and enjoy her life without allowing real estate to consume every available hour.
That kind of freedom requires boundaries and intentional business design. Production alone is not the final destination. You can be successful in real estate and still have a life, but you have to build the business in a way that supports the life you actually want.
Becoming the Person Who Can Do It
Rachelle’s story reminds us that we do not need to create someone else’s version of success. We do not have to cold call, door knock, join every social platform, or purchase every new tool. We need to understand our strengths, build a recognizable personal brand, develop a few reliable funnels, and consistently put ourselves in places where real relationships can grow.
Rachelle began as a shy woman who preferred staying behind the scenes. Today, she has more than $37 million in closed sales and teaches other agents how to grow their businesses. She did not wait for proof that she could do it. She became the person capable of doing it along the way.
Do not let what you have not done yet convince you of what you cannot do next.
